To designate key applications as those crucial for daily work performance, we will access the Productivity > Applications section.
Once here, we will access the section to edit the application settings by clicking on the icon.
A window will appear where we can edit the application settings. We will check the key application box. If we want to undo this action, we simply need to uncheck the box.
Often, within the same application, there are parts we want to divide into two different activities or processes to track the active time spent on each. For example, certain parts may be productive for specific workgroups but not for others.
For these cases, our software includes a feature called "application sub-patterns," which allows you to define a portion of an application as a separate entity and set different productivity criteria for it.
Go to Settings > Productivity > Applications and click on the orange icon located on the side (highlighted in the image) next to the application where you want to create sub-patterns.
For example: If we use Microsoft Excel, we can define the following sub-patterns:
2021PRESU: Files containing this name will appear as 2021 budgets.
2021CLI*: Files containing this name will appear as 2021 client list. (*The asterisk is a wildcard that means "any text").
A single application named microsoft excel will still appear, but two additional applications will also be displayed as [EXCEL.EXE] 2021 budgets and [EXCEL.EXE] 2021 client list.
Each of these can be configured independently on theproductivity map as either productive or non-productive.
In the previous example, it might be the case that for the IT group, files defined as ‘client list’ are not productive, while other tasks performed in Microsoft Excel are considered productive.
This same approach can also be applied to different sections of a webpage, as long as the section name changes. For instance, we can define the website .mycompany.com/product as productive and .mycompany.com/social_portal as non-productive.
